Short term 12

Short term 12 (2013)- Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton
This may contain spoilers

This piece is a social realistic drama directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and produced by companies such as Animal Kingdom and Traction Media then released in 2013. This movie portrays the lives of children in care in america. This essay will be talking about the micro features in this movie and its use to convey meaning and drive its plot.

This movie is targeted towards young adults and teenagers. The director helps the target audience connect with the story better by using teenagers and a young adult cast. Making them more relatable and understandable this helps the audience find them more likeable

The movie's cinematography engages the audience and help them feel attached to the characters. Its purposefully does this through the use of close up shots towards the character or an object associated to them. This makes the audience feel as if they are witnessing and intruding into the characters life as the camera zooms in towards the character. For example in Marcus's rap scene the camera zooms in towards him as he raps about his life and problems with his mother, and as he states "look into my eyes and you know what its like to live a life not knowing what a normal life's like!" The camera zooms into his eyes. This amplifies the emotional atmosphere by showing us the despair in the characters eyes and the audience is made to mirror his emotion then to feel attached and closer to him,
The use of mise en scene in this movie helps the audience understand the characters. As there are often shots of some pictures or artefacts that associate with the characters lives, in the shot frame. These shots seen at several points during the movie introduces the audience into the worlds of each character and their personality for example Marcus's fish bowl shows the audience that he likes fish and the headphones and radio show the audience he is into music and the room full of toys shows that they are of significance to the character.
Image result for short term 12 shots

Ultimately the director shows the represents the characters as scarred yet normal people. Which is evident from Marcus's out burst about the statement "under privileged kids". The director leads the audience into the lives of these characters and introduces us to their fear and pain. He allows us to connect by using his micro features, Making the audience understand this is a character driven story.

The force awakens an online meltdown

This article was taken from the "Evening standard" about how fans caused the website crash of "UK cinemas" due to the large amount trying to log on and purchase the tickets of "STAR WARS: the force awakens." This began "when tickets went on sale two months before the latest instalment hits the big screen."
This article was written by Alistair Foster who is a show business correspondent.
The article discusses the website failure and how it enraged expectant fans on social networks who claimed "trying to get star wars tickets.. is like pulling teeth." The author shows the readers the entertaining reactions of people effected by the issue.  He used tweets posted to give an outline that covers the situation. Such as the time the sales went on which was 8am and the cinema websites that were causing lengthy delays: Odean, Vue, Cineworld and Cinemas that suffered problems such as BFI IMAX at waterloo.
My opinion on the article is that it was informative yet brief and entertaining to read because of its humour use of quotes from other sources.

Crash

Crash analysis

This analysis is about the movie "Crash" and will cover its messages relation to its story line. Crash is an indie, drama, crime film released in 2004 by director Paul Haggis.

Writer-director Haggis interweaves several connected stories about race, class, family and gender in Los Angeles in the aftermath of 9/11. The director uses the characters featured in the film to convey the theme of racism and stereotype as all of them are affected or associated with it in some way. Its main message of the movie is that we are all a member of one society that interact and effect each other and we're also all dependent on each other despite our race, class, or gender.

The director uses interweaving story line of the characters lives to convey their perspectives and opinions mainly related and associated with racism. This conveys to the viewer that each of them have an opinion exactly to how each of us do. Furthermore this is emphasized in the scene where the woman gets car jacked at gun point and that makes her opinion on other races change. This shows us the impact our actions have on other people. Which is best shown from a story line that goes from character story to another.

The director use of non-liner cyclical story line, as it goes back to the beginning towards the end, is a method of keeping the viewer engaged with the journey to unravel the mystery in the beginning, seeing as the journey goes through several characters perspectives which is what conveys the message. The fact the story line didn't completely end as we revealed what transpired at the beginning, teaches the viewer that the characters and the story goes on even if the movie ends. This relates the movie to real life.

Most of the characters presented is in this movie are like people that we would interact with in the real world as normal human beings for example the Latino lock fixer, and the Persian shopkeeper. They are shown to us as having a story, a family and a life. This teaches us that letting barriers and differences such as race and status get between us disconnects us from each other and can also hinders progress. This is evident as when the police officer shoots the black man because he stereotyped the black man as dangerous when they could have connected over something they had in common.

Ultimately the director uses his story line to convey a message that every one is equal and our actions possess impact on other people shown through the characters and how they interact with each other in the movie. The interweaving story line also helps make every character likable so the audience doesn't like one character over another and by giving them same screen time it emphasizes the idea of equality in the characters.

Woman, 18, raped after being forced into a Wirral alleyway

CCTV image police issued

A woman has been raped following a night out in Merseyside.
She was attacked after being forced into an alleyway off Borough Road, near to Tranmere Rovers' stadium in Wirral, at about 05:30 BST on 28 September.
The man ran off and she sought help at a nearby house. Police were contacted after she went to hospital for treatment.
CCTV images have been released of a man who police want to speak to as part of their investigation.
The woman had shared a taxi to Wirral from Liverpool city centre with a friend and a man she did not know, police said.
Her friend got out at Whetstone Lane, Birkenhead, before the woman and the man got out in Borough Road to use a cash machine.
She was then forced into an alleyway where she was attacked, police said.
My work
This news talks about a female victim of rape as she was coming back from a night out in Merseyside in Liverpool. It was report on the 9th of October but doesn't state the reporter who wrote the entry however this entry is was reported on the BBC website.
It states the time of day the incident took place even where is was near too also when it happened which is "05:30 BST on 28 September". The reporter also informs the reader what happened after it happened possibly from the woman's point of view, giving the reader an understanding of what happened and how the perpetrator got away
The reporter also gives us an insight of how the police investigation of it is going as they say "CCTV images have been released of a man who police want to speak to as part of their investigation" showing the reader that the incident is being investigated.
Then it gives us a step by step information on how the perpetrator got in contact with the rape victim.
In my opinion this article has a lack of information and reporters opinion relating to the incident that happen. For example this is another article on the same incident.

Two dead after bus hits supermarket

An eight-year-old boy and a woman thought to be in her 70s have died after a double-decker bus crashed into a supermarket in Coventry city centre, West Midlands Police have said.
The boy, a passenger on the top deck of the bus, and the woman, a pedestrian, both died at the scene.
A nine-year-old girl is also seriously ill in hospital, while six others, including the bus driver, were hurt.
The bus collided with stationary cars before hitting the Sainsbury's store.
Police have not commented on what caused the crash, which happened in Trinity Street at about 18:00 BST on Saturday.
A number of people were trapped on the bus's top deck, police added.
Specialist officers are supporting the families of the boy, from Leamington, and the woman, from Nuneaton.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said the nine-year-old girl had injuries to her face, head and right leg and suspected chest, abdominal and pelvic injuries. She remains in a critical but stable condition at Birmingham Children's Hospital.
Five people were treated at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire - the bus driver, a man in his 50s, with neck and shoulder injuries; a man in his 20s with a broken arm; a man with a minor leg injury; a woman in her 60s with leg and arm injuries, and a man with a minor injury. Another person was treated at the scene.
All but one of the five have been discharged from hospital.
Stagecoach Midlands said the bus was on the X18 service from Coventry to Leamington.
Road closures were put in place after the crash while police carried out investigations but have now been lifted.

Police Supt Paul Keasey said: "We hope to carry out a swift investigation and I would like to thank people who have already come forward who witnessed the collision.
"This is a busy area of Coventry city centre and we hope to keep disruption to a minimum as our investigation continues; no-one has been arrested at this stage."
Witness Maneer Fiaz told the BBC he had heard a loud bang and then saw people running towards the scene.
"Everyone was just screaming and there were two kids trapped at the top of the vehicle," he said.
"It was just absolute chaos."

Bus 'skidded'

Another witness, Anand Basi, said: "People on the bottom deck seemed to be able to get out of the emergency door.
"But people on the top deck seemed to be trapped... It was chaos, everybody moving around, shouting, screaming, crying."
He added that the crash had taken place on a straight stretch of road and there appeared to be no obvious reason why the bus "skidded out of control".
A Sainsbury's spokeswoman said: "I can confirm that earlier this evening a bus mounted the pavement in Trinity Place, stopping when it made contact with the store.
"We can confirm that we have no colleagues injured. We are working on the ground with the emergency services."
The spokeswoman confirmed the store had been open at the time of the crash but was unable to say whether any customers had been injured.

Context: This includes the time and location of incident, also the injury/casualties and what occurred directly from the witnesses.
Comparison: Compared to my last news posted this one is on disaster and event and not a stabbing it mainly includes witness perspectives where as the Jeremie stabbing news only included the what occur and quotes from the accused and the court.
